Skin
Acne is a common skin disease characterized by elevated sebum production and inflammation of the sebaceous glands. It is a condition that affects people of all ages, from puberty on.
However, teenagers and young adults suffer from acne the most, caused by hormonal changes experienced during puberty. Acne is very visible, leading to psychological issues like anxiety and depression.
One of the causes of acne is the overproduction of sebum, which is an oily substance that maintains the condition of the skin. Hemp Extract has the ability to block the stimulation of sebum production and reduce inflammation.
A study conducted in 2010 by a Hungarian scientist, Dr. Tamas Biro, intended to analyze the impact of Hemp Extract on the skin. He isolated skin cells and applied Hemp Extract, to check how the cannabinoid interacts with our own endocannabinoids. The findings revealed that the endocannabinoid cells play an important role in determining how much oil the skin produces. When our body produces too much of one kind of a neurotransmitter called anandamide, which is part of the ECS, it produces a surge of oil.
On the other hand, inadequate anandamide will result in dryness and skin diseases such as eczema. When Dr. Biro administered Hemp Extract on the skin cells, anandamide was reduced and oil production was halted.
A recent study published in 2014 used Hemp Extract on sebaceous glands, which secrete oily sebum, causing acne. The researchers stated that Hemp Extract worked as a “highly effective” drug or product that causes drying out of the sebaceous glands.
They also found that Hemp Extract inhibited both lipogenic action (the way the body converts energy to fat for storage), and the production of sebocytes (cells in the sebaceous glands which produce the oil which coats the hair and skin of mammals). Both processes are known to contribute to acne.
The study concluded: “Collectively, our findings suggest that, due to the combined lipostatic, anti-proliferative and anti-inflammatory effects, Hemp Extract has potential as a promising therapeutic agent for the treatment of acne vulgaris.”
It is recommended to use Hemp Extract orally as well as topically for best results.
